They mean different things. Hydro[sulfur/carbon]ic would refer to the binary acids, of which H2S is real, but H4C is not, and is a nonacidic molecule called methane, and written as CH4.

The rule of thumb is that if the salt ends with -ic, that acid is hydro[______]ic acid.
